Writing, writing tips

Monday Minute: 642 Tiny Things To Write About

642 Tiny Things To Write About is a journal that provides you with fun, inspirational and thought-provoking writing prompts. I got this book as a gift from my brother and his girlfriend during Christmas, and I’ve had a lot of fun with it ever since. It’s one more tool in my writing toolbox that helps spark creativity and motivation.

642 Tiny Things To Write About

I often use writing prompts from The Daily Post here on WordPress whenever I’m feeling lost for ideas or just want to take my writing in a different direction. It’s also great to have a book like 642 Tiny Things To Write About on hand to jot down your thoughts whenever you feel the need.

I’ve done a couple of the prompts and can say there are many benefits to this type of exercise, even if you don’t end up using any of the material. Here are a few advantages:

    • It encourages conciseness and quick thinking in your writing. With the tiny space provided to write, you really don’t have any room or time to plan things out. There’s really no room for self-doubt or self-editing.
    •  This journal covers all kinds of themes and topics: from popular culture to your characters to your own life story. It gets you thinking outside of the box and helps you realize that nothing is off-limits in writing. You can really write about anything your heart desires.
    • It keeps you writing and may even help you when you’re dealing with writer’s block. It doesn’t matter if you’re writing about spaceships or Star Wars in 140 characters, the point is that you’re writing. You’re practicing and filling yourself with inspiration. You’re being proactive rather than passive about your inspiration.

If you’re looking for a gift idea for any writers in your life or you’re in need of a book that will get you writing, give this one a try.
